The University of Maryland Medical Center is currently seeking a Lead Clincial Social Worker (License Required) to coordinate and direct the functioning of a clinical treatment team; providing inpatient and outpatient care within the Shock Trauma Unit. Located at the University Of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) in downtown Baltimore near the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards; you won't find a more vibrant place to work!
Job Summary
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
* Provides clinical supervision and consultation to staff and provide advanced social work services and case management to the most difficult patients.
* Responsible for the first line administrative supervision of a clinical treatment team of approximately 4-10 social work staff and students. Assists departmental management in evaluation of problem areas in clinical functioning. Makes recommendations regarding program and staff assignments to the Director.
* Approves staff requests for leave and arranges for adequate clinical coverage when team members are absent. Arranges for on-call coverage among team members. Orients new workers for on-call coverage.
* Reviews team members’ administrative assignments and responsibilities, counsels them and employs disciplinary measures when members are not compliant with clinical standards. Ongoing evaluation of team members is performed through regular contact and annual evaluations.
* Provides field instruction for student interns. Serves as coordinator of field instruction and/or participates on field instruction task force.
* Coordinates the department wide rotation with other team leaders.
* Conducts regular meetings with team members to present new cases for assignment and treatment planning, review of ongoing cases, and discuss clinical and departmental issues. Assigns cases to team members based on assessment of caseload size and clinical expertise. Assists team to develop initial treatment plans on new cases; coordinates presentation of ongoing difficult cases for additional team input.,
* Keeps statistics regarding volume of service, caseload size, admissions and discharges in order to have an equitable distribution of clinical work.
* Provides advanced social work services to a caseload of approximately 15 of the most difficult and complex cases. Implements individual treatment plans utilizing individual, family and group therapy.
Documents clinical interventions and patient’s progress through regular case recordings, review, and reformulation of treatment plans. Consults with other disciplines to ensure adequate case management. Conducts intake interviews and presents intakes to clinical team for formulation of treatment plans.
* Provides primary case management working collaboratively with the patient, providers and patient’s support system to facilitate access to services that meet the patient’s complex needs.
* Performs an in-depth biopsychsocial assessment identifying long/short term goals and recommended interventions. Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates an individualized care plan.
* Assesses and coordinates options, resources and services to help meet patient’s needs. Incorporates knowledge of patient’s MCO’s regulations and protocols in planning interventions. Documents cost benefit analysis to assist in evaluating the plan of care.
* Provides information on the case management process, insures that documentation is complete and in patient’s chart and works with inpatient concurrent review/case management to insure continuity.
Attends primary care case management staff meetings.
* Identifies needs in program planning and facilitates program development. Assumes leadership for developing new programs, research projects, clinical presentations at workshops, and clinical publications that relate in social work practice in healthcare.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Education and Experience
* Masters degree in Social Work is required.
* Maryland state Social Work licensure and credentials as a Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C), or evidence of application for licensure examination at the time of employment, is required.
* Five years post-masters clinical experience in a healthcare setting is required. Three years of experience in a lead/supervisory capacity is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Proficient knowledge of social work practices and case management is necessary.
* Proficient leadership qualities are required, including ability to manage the work of Master’s level clinicians from the core disciplines and ability to provide emergency consultation to staff.
* Proficient organization and problem-solving skills are required in order to develop/implement efficient work processes, and to successfully resolve difficult, conflict-oriented situations for the common good.
